05 · The story
“Flowers should feel inevitable in their setting, yet still take you by surprise.”
Michael Pooley is an acclaimed floral designer, horticultural specialist and consultant with more than 30 years of experience. He established Michael Pooley Flowers in 1996. His career includes personal floral commissions for Lee Alexander McQueen and the Alexander McQueen studio. This work sharpened his rare sensitivity to silhouette, proportion and the expressive possibilities of flowers.
Michael also led the floral training for Waitrose’s nationwide horticultural programme, training a Partner in every branch for their horticultural role. He worked alongside celebrated food writer Rosemary Moon, who delivered the programme’s food and cookery training. It was an ambitious national initiative that united expert knowledge, practical skill and confident customer service.
That expertise has grown naturally into garden design, substantial transformations and discreet ongoing consultancy. Today, Michael works personally with private clients, couples, estates and businesses who value originality, trust and a quietly exacting service.
Whether composing flowers for a room or restoring balance to a landscape, his approach remains the same: listen closely, notice everything and create something that feels entirely at home.
“You made a lovely and elegant contribution to the evening—thank you.”
